Who can invest in Own Our Own?

Any California resident who is at least 18 years old, with a valid U.S. bank account, and a U.S. tax identification number (Social Security Number or Employer Identification Number) is eligible to invest in Own Our Own.

How often can I expect to receive returns?

Cash dividends will be paid quarterly, to begin after the initial “ramp up” period of 12 months. The ramp up period is the period of time in which the fund makes its investments and accumulates its real estate holdings. The real estate holdings then generate income, from which we pay you your quarterly cash dividend.

Is this fund registered with the SEC?

This offering is not registered by the SEC, this is an intrastate offering, exempt from SEC oversight as per Regulation 147A. This fund is governed by California State Securities Laws and Regulations.

Why is investment capped at $2,500?

Typically for this type of fund, investors must meet the following standard:

Each Investor must have either (a) a minimum gross income of not lessthan Sixty Five Thousand Dollars ($65,000) and a net worth (exclusive ofhome, furnishings and automobiles) of at least Two Hundred Fifty ThousandDollars ($250,000); or (b) a net worth of Five Hundred Thousand Dollars($500,000)

One of our objectives as a fund is to provide access to investment to as many people as possible.  Specifically people from communities who haven’t been provided a pathway to investment. So this requirement would have excluded a lot of the investors we want to reach and would have defeated one of the main purposes of our fund.

The trade-off we made with the State of California was placing a cap on investment at $2,500 in exchange for waiving the above requirements.  So now, anyone can invest up to $2,500 as long as their investment doesn’t exceed 10% of their net worth.

How can I personally invest more than $2,500?

If you are an accredited investor, please email us directly as we have a fund that is going to invest in the exact same deals structured for institutions and accredited investors.

If you’re unaccredited we’re launching another fund in the Summer of 2021.  You will be able to invest in that fund, and there will not be a $2,500 cap.

Will Own Our Own only invest in Black communities and Black owned businesses?

No, that is our primary focus and we will invest the majority (no less than 51%) of the funds assets into Black communities and Black owned businesses. But we will augment our core focus with opportunistic and general market deals to create a robust portfolio of diverse assets to facilitate our objective of making impact, but also returning our investor’s capital and also providing them with a return on their capital.

Do I get to evaluate individual investments before investing into the fund?

No, this is a blind pool fund. We raise money from investors and then begin to invest. Our ability to share insight into the acquisition of Broadway Boxing Gym is unique in that the timing aligned with launch. We will however share insight and info into deals as we close on them across the life of the fund.

What rate of return can investors expect?

It would not be legal or good practice for us to provide investors with an expected rate of return . It is our intention to provide both a return of capital, and a return on capital. But every investment entails the risk of loss, potentially complete loss of principal.

Is the investment income taxable?

This investment is taxable income, you will be issued a K-1 if you invest when tax season is approaching. Please consult with your tax advisor or CPA.

How are dividends calculated and at what rate?

There isn’t a fixed dividend. Distributions are paid on a pro rata basis as the fund’s investments generate cash flow.
